Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that you consider travel insurance, which may cover trip cancellation costs, medical expenses, emergency evacuation, personal belongings, emergency assistance, and travel delays. Available at a nominal fee, this insurance can also cover conditions such as airline accidents, lost baggage, late flights, inclement weather, and other unforeseeable events.

Travel insurance can protect your vacation against unforeseeable circumstances. In many cases you’re covered if you need to cancel for a covered reason — including someone in your party becoming ill or injured, a non-traveling family member becoming sick, or inclement weather closing roads or airports. What kinds of circumstances are typically covered for cancellation or trip interruption?

Comprehensive policies generally cover a variety of unforeseeable events. For example, if weather delays your flight and you miss the first day of your stay, you can often file a claim for reimbursement of that day’s charges. If a relative at home is hospitalized and you need to cut your trip short, you may be reimbursed for the unused days. If illness or injury causes a full cancellation, a comprehensive policy can often recover the monies you would otherwise forfeit to cancellation penalties.

Are weather-related problems covered?

In most comprehensive policies, yes — if your trip is interrupted, delayed, or canceled due to weather, you are typically covered. Always review the specific policy terms before purchasing, as coverage varies by provider and plan.
