Casa de Campo: the gated golf-and-marina estate
Casa de Campo, just outside La Romana, is the most established luxury address in the country — a large, gated resort community of private staffed estates rather than a beach strip. It is built around golf: Pete Dye’s Teeth of the Dog, the cliffside Dye Fore, and The Links. Add a full-service marina, the private Minitas Beach, and the Mediterranean-style village of Altos de Chavon, and you have a place designed for people who want space, service, and their own front door.
It is the strongest choice for a golf trip, a milestone celebration, or any group that wants a fully staffed home. Cap Cana is the country’s newest ultra-luxury gated community, and the one that feels most exclusive. Its centrepiece is Punta Espada, the Jack Nicklaus course regularly rated among the best in the Caribbean, alongside a deep-water marina, the Eden Roc hotel, Scape Park, and the wide white sand of Juanillo Beach. It is quieter and more contained than Punta Cana, with newer villas and a strong yachting scene.
Choose Cap Cana if privacy and the newest builds matter most, or if you want marina access without leaving a gated enclave. It works beautifully for couples, families who want calm, and design-led groups — look at Founders Villa at Eden Roc or Villa Oceania. Punta Cana: the beach-and-family choice
Punta Cana is the best-known of the three and the easiest first trip. It has the longest beaches, the widest range of villas, and the shortest transfers from the main airport. Getting there
Three airports serve the region. La Romana (LRM) is minutes from Casa de Campo and the easiest arrival for it. Punta Cana International (PUJ) is the main gateway and closest to both Cap Cana and Punta Cana. Las Americas (SDQ) in Santo Domingo is about 90 minutes west and usually only worth it for specific routings. Whichever community you choose, a staffed villa can arrange airport transfers.
